Session details:

First off, newborn sessions, my specialty. These sessions require an extreme amount of time, newborn handling skills, styling and knowledge about light & how light works. They also require a solid amount of knowledge with neonates and newborns. I happen to have both! These sessions are generally scheduled well before you are due. It is not unusual to schedule a newborn session in your first trimester. I prefer all newborn sessions be held in my natural light home studio because I have everything we need here. There is also a new option on the pricelist for "lifestyle" newborn sessions which focus strictly on candid/lifestyle images of your family and your newborn. These would mostly like be held in your home since all we need is you and your new baby! You don't need to provide a thing. But, you do need to book this session as far in advance as you possibly can! There are only so many per month & they go fast. That said, I enjoy capturing babies in general & if you missed the window or didn't know, don't worry. It's still doable at 6 weeks or 8 weeks, we just focus it a bit differently!

If we are doing a custom baby, kids, lifestyle family session - you should expect to set aside a couple of hours to do something fun with your family or focus on your kids for your session. A custom photo session is a luxury & I want to be sure it's an enjoyable experience. One that focuses on capturing you and your family all together really being you. My hope is for you to spend our time together enjoying your family. Laughing, eating ice cream, coloring. Documenting the new baby. Whatever it is that you will want to cherish as a memory or even capture for your kids to see someday. A picture of my parents smiling and looking at the camera is great, but the ones I really cherish are the ones where I can see how they felt in that moment. How they looked at my kids with love in their eyes or how they proudly looked at me. I want you to see what love looks like in the end. You shouldn't expect studio type portraits or everyone smiling saying cheese. I really enjoy capturing the relationships & the feelings in the moments. In other words, "lifestyle" photography. Please don't fuss at your kids for not behaving while I'm there . . . they all act that way. I know they never act that way any other day;o) Just let them be. Don't promise them the whole world for one smile. Just enjoy them. Sing their favorite song, read their favorite book. Just be in the moment with them. If they run around like crazy - scoop them up & make it a game . . . leave the capturing part to me. And, pleeeaase don't tell your little one to smile at me during a session. Kids smile naturally if they are happy - I'll catch it. I'm pretty good at it. And, if you see me grab your little ones hand and lead them away from you - stay put and let me! Most of the time kids do better away from their parents.

I will gladly spend time with you planning the direction of your session & getting to know you better. The better I know you - the better the final outcome. We'll try our darndest to not let anyone get stressed out. I'll capture what I feel best represents you. I won't leave you hanging out there feeling awkward either. I'm glad to give you plenty of "posing" direction. Just know if I'm not saying anything - you are doing an excellent job all on your own. Just keep doing it.
